Jim Carrey appears to have changed his previously announced retirement plans, according to reports. The veteran star talked about the reason behind his decision to play Doctor Robotnik again in the third installment of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Speaking to The Associated Press during the film’s United Kingdom premiere held on Tuesday, December 10, carry shared that he returned to this “universe” because, first of all, he has to portray a “genius”, which is a bit of a stretch. The actor continued, “And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, honestly. Yes.”
According to a People magazine article, while the Truman Show star was promoting the sequel to the aforementioned film, he told Access Hollywood that he was planning to retire from acting.
The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind star shared with the outlet that it depends on the circumstances and if the angels bring her a script “written in gold ink” she tells them it’s really important for people to see it. So he can continue down this road. He added, “But I’m taking a break.”
During the UK premiere of her latest film on December 10, when asked by the Associated Press about the above statements, Carrey laughingly replied, “It may be an exaggeration.”
The actor reportedly has more than one role in the third installment of Sonic the Hedgehog, as he’s also playing his villainous grandfather Gerald Robotnik. The film’s director, Jeff Fowler, spoke to SFX Magazine and shared that creating an entirely new character within this world for Carrey was really an “exciting opportunity” and that the veteran star “did the job perfectly.”
The film also stars Keanu Reeves, Idris Elba, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Krysten Ritter, Adam Pally, and many more. You can see this film in theaters on 20th December.
