Jayasuriya began his statement (written in Malayalam) with the headline, “When spreading lies becomes media ethics,” referencing what he sees as a pattern of false reporting in relation to the fraud case. He wrote, “For the last two days, I am extremely shocked to see the lies being spread about me. This campaign of misinformation started with the claim that I have been summoned and I will have to appear again on the 7th.”

He clarified, “Till the time of writing this note, neither I nor my wife have received any such summons from the ED, except for the ‘summons’ we have been receiving through news channels for the last two days. I received a summons to appear again on the 24th, and I appeared. They asked us to appear again on the 29th, and we complied. Moreover, we have yet to receive any summons to appear again on the 7th Is.”

Jayasuriya questioned, “Can any of us predict today what kind of fraud people who contact us for advertisements or other professional purposes might commit tomorrow?”

He further wrote, “I am simply a responsible ordinary citizen who conducts all financial transactions legally and pays accurate taxes to the public treasury.”

Referring to the media, he commented, “When I see the media – which is obliged to deliver objective facts to the people – stooping to this level, I feel only pity…” He further added, “An era where the media serves lies… What a state of affairs…!!!”

The ED inquiry involves payments made to Jayasuriya and his wife Saritha as part of a promotional agreement for Save Box App, an online auction app launched by Swadik Rahim in 2019. Jayasuriya was reportedly promised Rs 2 crore to work as a brand ambassador.

The ED said the actor and his wife had received around Rs 1 crore. Investigation indicated that the money had come from companies linked to Swadik Rahim, the main accused in the fraud case. The Save Box app fraud was brought to public attention in 2023.
