Javed Akhtar wonders why South films dominate, Aamir explains big issues
Javed Akhtar questioned why South films flourish in the north, while Aamir Khan blamed Hindi cinema’s flawed OTT model and loss of emotional depth. He urged the creators to focus on authentic story.

Screen writer Javed Akhtar has joined the ongoing conversation about the declining quality of Hindi cinema. He questioned the success of South Indian films in the North Indian belt despite coming into the limelight by “unknown stars”. He was talking to Aamir Khan at Aamir Khan’s launch: a special film festival by PVR Inox, Jadugar of Cinema.
During a conversation with Aamir, Javed asked, “The (Hindi) films have lost all connectivity with the audience. South Indian films have been dubbed, which features stars, which are unknown to the audience in North India, releasing a business of Rs 600-700 crore. Even some of our films are directed by our people.
Aamir argued that it is not North vs South ProblemBefore highlighting an flawful business model in Hindi cinema, he said, “The problem we are facing is something different.”

Earlier, I used to watch films because I had no choice. Now, I go to theaters for its fancy. Since we can see the movies anywhere, so we can’t see ourselves.”
The actor also emphasized, “Writer and director in Hindi cinema are trying to entertain an audience that is a bit more sophisticated. They have forgotten their roots, original feelings, sharp feelings. We are choosing to talk about various aspects of life, we are not clinging to broad strokes.”
Aamir Khan believes that filmmaker Need to focus on materials They want to make instead of giving under external pressure. Aamir said, “I can only make what comes from within me. I don’t think that it will be a hit or flop.”
Recently, Hansal Mehta and Vivek Agnihotri also expressed their opinion on the current status of Hindi cinema. While Agnihotri suggested that Bollywood is falling, Mehta argued that the Hindi film industry needs reset.
