Actress Janhvi Kapoor, who is all set for her upcoming film ‘Uljhan’, is promoting her film extensively as she believes it is one of her best performances to date. Janhvi’s last release, Mr and Mrs Mahi, didn’t do very well but Kapoor’s acting and hard work couldn’t go unnoticed. During the promotions of her film, Janhvi shared her thoughts on whether the industry has recognised the actor in her, looking beyond her vanity.

Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Janhvi said, “I don’t know if the industry has recognised the actor in me yet. Even if it has, I am probably not thinking about it very much because acting is what I have wanted to do all my life. I feel I have evolved a lot since my first film, but I cannot tell myself how the industry perceives me.”

The actor said, “If I had done wide-reaching commercial films that had song, dance and glamour, it would have been a predictable and a much easier journey because it would have been easier for me and would have been more guaranteed success and ensured more popularity. But I made a conscious decision a few years ago to challenge myself and surprise myself and try something different, even if the risks and stakes were much higher.”

Janhvi talked about choosing ‘small films’ and said, “So, yes, I think I have chosen some high-risk films and ‘Uljhan’ is one of them. I sometimes joke about Insta Janhvi vs actor Janhvi. Honestly, I am a little unaware of how the industry sees me, but I can attest for myself that with each film, I walk into the next set more confident because I feel I can do what my director wants me to do.”

Janhvi concludes by saying, “I am scared of trying to be aware of what the external story or perception is about me. I think that kind of awareness kills an artiste, because it will make me start calculating things that I am not meant to calculate in any case. It will either make me extremely confident or completely shatter my ego and both of these things will be very disruptive for me.”

Ulaj will release in theatres on August 2.
