Vijay’s release Jan NayganThe event, originally scheduled for January 9, has been postponed. The Madras High Court order on Vijay’s film will be pronounced today after the film’s producer, KVN Productions, filed an urgent petition challenging the non-issue of censor certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

During Wednesday’s hearing, the court said the verdict could be pronounced only on January 9, the same day the film was scheduled to release in 5,000 screens worldwide. It was revealed in court that the CBFC certificate was withheld after a disgruntled member of the scrutiny committee lodged a complaint with the board chairman. While the other four members recommended giving the film a U/A 16+ certificate, the dissenting member argued that his objections were not adequately addressed. As a result, the matter was referred to the Revision Committee for review.

Producer G Dhananjayan shared an emotional note on X and wrote, “#Jannanayagan – I am very saddened by the postponement and it is a huge loss for Tamil cinema. Senior advocate Satish Parasaran, who is representing the Vijay starrer in the Madras High Court, has an unexpected connection with the Tamil film industry. Fans recently learned that Parasaran is the son of former Attorney General of India K. Parasaran (1983–89) and Saroja. Saroja was Kamal Haasan’s cousin, which makes Satish Parasaran the nephew of the Tamil star and politician.

Thalapathy Vijay’s Jan Naygan It was postponed just two days before its scheduled release due to the delay in issuing the censor certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite the lack of CBFC approval, advance ticket booking had begun in select theaters across India as well as in overseas markets. The producers reportedly lost around ₹50 crore due to last-minute cancellations.

UK-based distributor Ahimsa Entertainment shared the figures while announcing the film’s postponement. Their statement read, “We had planned a release with thousands of shows across 260+ theaters in the UK, a 12:30 am (6 am IST) premiere show and location and pre-sale trend in record numbers for a Tamil film. leoMore than 65,000 tickets have been sold to date.”

Jan Nayakan Release Date: Vijay’s film postponed after court decision

Amid the ongoing censor delay controversy, Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayakan has been postponed. KVN Productions, the banner supporting the film, announced the delay with a heavy heart on January 8, saying that the decision was taken “due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control”.
