James Corden is ‘very emotional’ about finishing script for ‘Gavin & Stacey’ final episode

James Corden is set to say goodbye to his popular sitcom, Gavin & Stacey. The comedian revealed that he has finished the script for the sitcom’s final episode and is feeling “very emotional” about it. During his appearance on Virgin Radio, the former TV host shared details about his scriptwriting process.

Corden claimed he had completed the work several days earlier, but had to shorten dialogue and take care of other things due to the show’s format.

The first episode of Gavin & Stacey aired in 2007 and followed the story of two people who try to date each other amid turmoil amongst their families and friends.

James Corden revealed on the radio show that the end of Gavin and Stacey was difficult to comprehend. The actor-comedian shared that the upcoming episodes of the show will tie up loose ends, and the characters will appear on screen for their final goodbyes.

Talking about his writing process, Corden said, “Rewriting is really hard. Writing is really fun because you can just say, ‘Anything can happen.’ But when you rewrite things, you deal with a lot of logistics and ‘Well, look, we might not be able to shoot this, or it has to be in this location; is there a way this can be changed?'”

He added, “And frankly, it’s too long. So, really, what we’ve been doing for the last couple of weeks is just trying to make this as cost-effective as possible. And we accomplished that yesterday.”

The Fat Friends actor claimed he was “very emotional” about the show and saying goodbye to his viewers.

What James Corden said about Gavin & Stacey’s conclusion

James Corden shared heartwarming moments from his British sitcom, where he revealed that the entire cast and crew got emotional at the show’s finale. The TV host claimed, “We’re done writing; we’ll never write anything that Pam (Alison Steadman’s character) says again… We’ll never be able to write anything interesting that Brian (Rob Brydon’s character) does.”

He added, “And we looked at each other, and we were just like, ‘Ah, isn’t this amazing?’ To have the luxury of deciding to end it and be in a position where people still care. It’s unimaginable to us – all of it. I just feel so emotional about it all. Everything.”

Gavin & Stacey ran on the BBC network for three seasons from 2007-2010. The show was renewed in 2019.
