Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met rapper Hanu Mankind at the ‘Modi aur America’ event in Long Island, New York. The event, held at the Nassau Coliseum, was part of PM Modi’s three-day US visit aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.
Hanu Mankind, whose real name is Suraj Cherukat, mesmerized the audience with his brilliant performance. Several videos of his performance have been shared online.

After his performance, PM Modi greeted the Kerala-born rapper with a handshake and a hug and praised his performance. The PM also chanted “Jai Hanuman” before embracing the artiste.

Known for tracks such as Big Dogs, Rush Hour, Genghis and Go To Sleep, Hanumankind is fast emerging as a major figure in mainstream hip-hop.
Other artists including singer Aditya Gadhvi and composer Devi Sri Prasad also performed at the event. Aditya, famous for his viral hit Khalasi, performed in front of 13,500 spectators. Devi Sri Prasad, known for his work in the blockbusters Pushpa: The Rise and Valtair Veeraya, also got a chance to meet PM Modi.

Indian expatriates from Tamil Nadu also performed the traditional musical instrument ‘parai’ during the event. Earlier, a group performed the acrobatic Mallakhamb from Maharashtra outside the Nassau Coliseum.
On September 22, the Prime Minister addressed thousands of Indian-Americans at the ‘Modi and America’ event. During his speech, he spoke about India’s rapid progress and discussed various topics important to both India and the Indian diaspora.
Prime Minister Modi described the Indian community living in the US as India’s “brand ambassadors”. “You are the bridge connecting these two great democracies,” he said. He acknowledged the significant contribution of Indian-Americans in both countries.
After the event, PM Modi met CEOs of several US tech companies at a roundtable in New York. He will attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York today, where he will address the ‘Summit of the Future’.
