This Wednesday, Honor will unveil MagicOS 9.0, but we get a glimpse — and confirmation — that the Honor Magic7 series will be powered by Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
Will bring Magic7 and MagicOS 9.0 “The first real-time NPU graphics rendering for mobile gaming” and this “The industry’s first on-device AI agent for an open ecosystem”OK, but what does it mean?
The official description is a bit vague, but it will use generative AI to reduce the load on the GPU (and with it, reduce temperatures and power usage). It also promises better image quality. It is unclear whether this improves frames rendered at lower resolutions or generates new frames or both. This is the description for next week.
By the way, the AI agent is called YOYO Assistant. It will have a wide range of uses: travel planning, including ticket booking, calendar scheduling, notification management, transferring files between apps, and more. And it will take care of hassles like unwanted subscription cancellations.
This is more sophisticated than a big “Cancel” button – you can ask YOYO which apps have an active auto-renewing subscription. The system will then look at your apps and show a list and let you cancel the apps you no longer want. The AI agent also knows how you like your coffee and can take you straight to your local coffee shop’s order page.
Honor’s partnership with Qualcomm extends beyond the smartphone called MagicRing. No, this is not a smart ring. Instead, it is a technology that works across different devices, apps, and services.
For example, Windows on an ARM PC powered by Snapdragon can generate detailed images from simple sketches using CoCreator. For example, with MagicRing, you can access CoCreator from a tablet like the Honor MagicPad 2.
Honor Magic7 series will be unveiled next week (Wednesday). For now, you can check out the first teaser video, which shows off the moon-inspired colorway and the new quad-camera.
“With this collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, we are defining an AI-first ecosystem and revolutionizing user experiences for the AI age. We’re thrilled to introduce the industry’s first AI agent to an open ecosystem and bring on-device generative AI to gaming powered by NPU computing for the first time. Welcome to the era of autopilot AI for mobile.” said Dr. Ray Guo, CMO of Honor.
