According to a study published in the International Journal of General Medicine, any type of thyroid dysfunction directly affects our BMI (Body Mass Index), leading to various lifestyle problems including obesity and weight gain. In fact, “normalizing thyroid levels significantly changed the weight of the patients” who were part of the study.

According to dietitian Simran Vohra, weight and thyroid can be controlled with the right type of diet. In fact, she shared a food option on Instagram that can help you manage thyroid along with losing extra kilos. guess what it is? This is the humble cowpea, also known as black-eyed peas.

Why Lobia is good for managing thyroid:

An indigenous legume found in almost every household, Lobia is low in calories, high in protein and fiber which helps in weight loss. According to Ms. Vohra, 100 grams of cowpea contains about 44 percent fiber which helps in removing toxins and burning fat and cellulite stored in the body. These factors help promote metabolism, gut health, and manage insulin levels in the body. Apart from this, it also helps in proper secretion of hormones from the thyroid gland.
