Apple’s first foldable iPhone has been rumored for years, but the latest round of leaks marks the clearest picture yet of what the company might finally unveil in 2026. What makes this device interesting is not just that it folds. Many Android brands have been experimenting with book-style foldables for some time, but Apple is treating the category as a long-term bet rather than a side project. Reports indicate that Apple wants to approach its first effort with the polish of a mature product, not the compromises you typically see in first-generation hardware. Not surprisingly, leaks point to a launch aligned with the iPhone 18 Pro cycle, and nearly every key detail from camera tech to battery size now suggests Apple is preparing something unusually ambitious. Here’s everything you need to know.

According to a JP Morgan Equity Research report, Apple’s foldable will use a 24-megapixel under-display camera on the internal screen. This is not a replacement for any current Android foldable offering, as most brands still rely on 4MP or 8MP under-screen implementations. If proven accurate, it would be a breakthrough in image clarity and light transmission, two issues that have historically limited the quality of hidden cameras. It also indicates that Apple has finally found a solution that doesn’t force users to change image quality for an uninterrupted display.

The battery details are also making noise. Ming-Chi Kuo has said that the phone will use high-density cells, and Korean reports suggest that Apple is testing capacities between 5,400mAh and 5,800mAh. Meanwhile, Chinese leaker Instant Digital claims that the final number will “definitely” exceed 5,000mAh. If that happens, it will be the largest battery ever seen on an iPhone, surpassing even the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This puts Apple closer to competitors like the Vivo X Fold 5 and Honor Magic V5, which have already pushed the boundaries in this category with bigger batteries.

On the hardware side, multiple reports agree that the device will feature a 7.8-inch main display, paired with a compact 5.5-inch cover screen when unfolded. Interestingly, the leak claims that Apple may bring back Touch ID instead of using Face ID for this model. The camera system includes a total of four modules – a hole-punch selfie camera on the outer screen, a high-resolution under-display camera inside and a dual 48-megapixel setup on the back.

Price is another area where Apple’s foldable is expected to make headlines. Citing multiple reports, MacRumors has said that the iPhone Fold could cost between $2,000 to $2,500 in the US, which would likely make it the most expensive iPhone ever released by Apple. The leaked price range suggests that it is not aimed at immediately targeting mainstream buyers but rather to stake a claim in the ultra-premium foldable space.

With almost every major detail leaked months before launch, expectations are sky-high for Apple’s first foldable. If Apple manages to bring advanced under-screen camera technology, a larger battery, and a refined design to its first attempt, the foldable market could look very different by the time the iPhone Fold arrives in 2026. The launch timeline is reportedly set for September 2026, but nothing is official.
