A latest development has emerged about the rumor iPhone fold. While Apple has not officially confirmed anything, many leaks and analyst reports suggest that a foldable iPhone is much higher in works. What is known so far that the iPhone will be the first foldable of Apple, expected to be launched for some time in 2026, perhaps with the iPhone 18 series. This will be Apple’s first completely new iPhone form factor after the original iPhone X, and expectations are naturally sky-high. After all, Apple has a lot of time to study the market, especially Samsung’s Galaxy Z fold series, which has developed rapidly over the years.
Reliable analyst Ming-chi kuoApple is targeting the second part of 2026 to start mass production of iPhone fold. Assembly partner Foxconn is said to kick the project in the initial Q4 of Q3 or Q4 at the end of 2025. However, so far, several components including specification – Kaj design – are still being finalized.
Interestingly, the display is one of the few components that have been allegedly locked. Samsung display is expected to produce about 7-8 million foldable panels per year for Apple. This does not mean that Apple sent several units, however. Analysts believe that the company is planning for a 2-3-year product life cycle, which has a total shipments of 15-20 million units of 15-20 million units in that period.
In addition, several leaks have suggested that the iPhone fold will have a book-style fold, much more Samsung’s Galaxy Z fold series, and possibly a 7.8-inch internal display with a 5.5-inch outer screen. One of the major highlights can be its thin profile – when it was allegedly measured only 4.5 mm when it came out and about 9 mm when twisted.
To achieve this slimness, Apple can leave face ID and bring back a physical side-mounted touch ID sensor. To maintain both strong and lighter the company, the company can also use a titanium frame similar to the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro models. However, are they expected to return to aluminum in the iPhone 17 series including the company, including the Pro model?
Moving forward, the front-faceing camera on the iPhone fold is rumored to use a hole-punch design rather than the normal dynamic island of Apple. This change can also appear on the iPhone 18 Pro model, thanks to the ID components, being allegedly transferred under the performance. If this happens, the iPhone can match the top-left cutout placement seen on the rest of the Apple’s 2026 lineup, which leaves only the iPhone 18 air to maintain the dynamic island.
Other expected features include dual rear cameras, cameras on both internal and external screens, and possibly a hinge made of liquid metal – a material that is known for its durability and used in SIM Ejector Tools of the first apple. If true, it can help reduce the crease with folding area, one of the most common pain points in current foldables.
Everyone said, until Apple does anything official, it is best to treat all this as speculation. But if the leaks so far are also accurate by halfway, the iPhone fold can be one of the most exciting products that Apple has launched in years.
