iPhone Air First Look: Modestly Compact, Surprisingly powerful and fresh optimistic
Meet iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone of Apple ever. We spent some time with it on 9 September during the amazing iPhone 17 series launch event, and here what we think about it.

The much awaited Apple iPhone Air has finally been launched, and has received mixed reactions online. While some believe in apple’s abilities to give a finished product, many people suspect more about it. I had to play a little bit with iPhone Air at Apple’s Big event and I have the first impression of the newly launched Apple smartphone.
Design and performance
With the bat, at just 165 grams, the iPhone makes the air feel light in hand. Branded as a “thin iPhone ever made”, squeezing all that hardware in the 5.6 mm smartphone is not a small achievement. Apple is stuck with a titanium cover for air, while it is chosen back into aluminum on its pro phone. I am not a fan of glossy mirror finish and likes it mats. Sounds strong and it is strong enough to withstand a twist force of up to 60 kg, which Apple played us in its research facility in Apple Park. It seems that they have made life difficult for all the creators that bends and breaks the iPhone for a living. At the back, the air uses ceramic shield glass, one of the strongest in the apple’s arsenal. Despite the smooth finish, it does not feel slippery. The front is protected by a better version of the ceramic shield, offering scratch resistance three times.
A plateau housing for the rear camera is a new design philosophy that Apple has adopted this year. Apple says that this is to maximize the size of the battery and adjust the new Apple Silicon A19 Pro Chip. This would not say that this is the first time I have seen it on a flagship phone, but for Apple, it can start a new chapter in unique Apple designs. The omission of the SIM card slot is understood. If Apple can offer wireless charging rapidly, they may also have chosen to leave the USB-C slot (but I am glad that they did not). The rest, camera control, action button and other buttons are standard on air.
The 6.5 -inch display is alive and praises the slim form factor. Although this may look a bit heavy for a thin phone, I think it’s some time people will get used to it. The air also gets a 120Hz promotion display which is now standard in all models. What is a welcome, the peak shine has 3000 nits that definitely help when you are using the phone. The texts look sharp, the colors are vivid and the contradictions are tuned to output the best photos on your Apple display.
Overall, the new slim iPhone looks like a breath of fresh ‘air’. I liked the design approach, it does not seem that it would be uprooted after a few drops and most importantly it looks sexy.
Performance and UI
On paper, it seems that no compromise has been made in case of air performance. For example, Apple has gone with its most powerful smartphone chip in the air: A19 Pro. It has a new 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU with an upgraded architecture.
It is powerful enough to run the AAA games and Apple’s generative AI model. While I do not see the use of this phone to the audience as their daily gaming or media production device, I feel for daily tasks, the performance should be more than enough.
To increase battery efficiency, Apple has also added its new N1 wireless networking chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. It also improves performance of other characteristics such as hotspots and aircraft. To add it, the C1 modem on the iPhone SE is now upgraded to the C1x in the air which is now 2 times faster. Apple has said that 30 percent more power is efficient than modem on 16 Pro, which means more battery life for users. These are some of the ways that are trying to balance the apple raw performance and the entire day battery efficiency.
I am waiting for iOS26 in the air. I did not get a lot of time to experience new software on the device, but if Apple is able to fix some kink that UI is near, it can be a good experience. To not mention that the iPhone Air Apple also provides support for intelligent which is currently undergoing its own patch at this time. While the iPhone is ready to give a comprehensive user experience out of the air box, it mostly depends on how Apple manages future software updates and AI.
Quarrel
The iPhone Air comes with a single lens 48-megapixel fusion camera that lends a lot of capabilities seen at the previously launched iPhone SE. It is a dynamic camera system that allows users to click on images in several focal lengths up to 35 mm. Not only this, you also get optical-quality 2x shots which can do a great job for portrait. We will reserve our final decision about the camera for complete reviews, but for the first raids, I would say that you are getting a competent single lens shooter who can do multi-work.
One of the largest upgrade in the camera department is the 18-megapixel center stage camera with the first square camera sensor for the front. This enables a broad area of view and even allows users to capture images and videos in 16: 9 or landscape resolution. I think this material can be a game-chain for creators and people who want to squeeze more people in their selfies.
Thanks to AI, the camera can automatically find out if there are more people in the frame and then turn the resolution from vertical to horizontal. In addition, Apple has also improved stabilization on the front camera, allowing 4K recording that only sweetens the deal. I am eager to test the camera on iPhone Air so that it should remain for it.
Battery
A slim smartphone has its own boundaries and battery life can be one of them. Only that you can squeeze into a phone that is thinner than the 6 credit cards stacked simultaneously. However, Apple does not seem worried. With progress in battery technology and in-house wireless and 5G modem of Apple, Apple believes that the air is capable of giving a full day battery. The company does not give any number, but I am eager whether it really lasts that standard.
Apple has also said that its new adaptive power mode learns the way to use a phone and manages battery efficiency based on it. Apart from this, Apple is also offering a new 4000mAh Magsafe battery accessory for air to add 40 -hour video playback.
We will put it in the exam in our review.
Initial decision
So, what does iPhone bring to air users who cannot give any other phone on the planet? First of all, being the thinnest iPhone promotes the possibility of a top pick if you want to flaunt a stylish Apple device. Secondly, there is no compromise in terms of performance, so it adds more weight to air dispute.
However, I think this price boils to tag. At an initial price of Rs 1,19,900, many users will be forced to add some additional and go to the pro model, which not only provides a much better camera system, but also brings better batteries to the table. Finally, it boils down how much you are ready to compromise for the rights of the thinnest iPhone.
