This year, Apple experimented with many design aspects of the latest iPhone 17 series. While the Pro variant got a makeover with a new camera island, the Plus model was dropped from the lineup. But, this was not the only change we saw this time. Replacing the Plus model, Apple introduced the thinnest iPhone in 2025 – Apple Air. The device is incredibly thin, with just a 5.6mm slim profile. You can read our detailed review of the iPhone Air here. After the first model, rumor has it that the company will bring the next generation iPhone Air 2, possibly with dual rear cameras.

According to a tipster, Fixed Focus Digital posted on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging site) claimed that the iPhone Air 2 will launch at a launch event next year. This means that Apple is expected to unveil a successor to the iPhone Air in September 2026, which will share the stage with the highly anticipated iPhone 18 Fold.

iPhone Air 2: What to Expect?

Apple’s upcoming iPhone Air 2 is shaping up to be a big step up from its predecessor, aiming to fix some of the first model’s biggest shortcomings. Reports suggest that the company has reworked the design and upgraded the camera system, fine-tuning the overall performance and efficiency.

One major upgrade expected with the iPhone Air 2 is the introduction of a dual-camera system on the back. The first generation iPhone Air had a 48-megapixel lens that already provided clear and detailed photos, but the second camera has better optical zoom and the possibility of handling greater depth of field. On the front, Apple is likely to retain the familiar 18-megapixel selfie camera, while continuing to offer high-quality imaging for video calls and self-portraits.

Apart from hardware, Apple is also expected to deepen software integration with its next releases. The iPhone Air 2 is likely to benefit from an iOS update coming in 2026, which will likely bring more advanced AI-powered tools and smart system features. Multiple reports, including TechRadar, have indicated that Apple may adopt faster refresh cycles for new models as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the upper-middle segment, matching rivals such as Samsung and Google.

iPhone Air 2: How much will it cost?

Early signs point to Apple adjusting its pricing strategy for the iPhone Air 2 to make it more attractive to users who prefer a lighter handset without paying top-tier flagship prices.

The original iPhone Air started at Rs 1,19,900, and the second-generation model is also expected to stay within the same price range. This will allow Apple to position the Air series as a stylish but slightly more affordable alternative to the Pro lineup, especially as smartphone prices continue to rise across the market due to rising component costs and memory shortages.
