Let’s take a detailed look at everything we know so far about the upcoming iPhone 16 series:

Bigger and better display

One of the most anticipated changes in the iPhone 16 series is the increase in display size for the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch screen, making them the largest iPhones ever. If this size increase is true it will be the first significant display upgrade for iPhones in several years. Although the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will retain the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes respectively, they will benefit from thinner bezels, which will increase the overall screen real estate.

Additionally, Apple is rumoured to adopt new OLED materials and possibly introduce MicroLED technology, which promises better brightness and colour accuracy while being more energy efficient. This will provide users with a more immersive and visually stunning display experience.

Advanced camera capabilities

The iPhone 16 series is also expected to feature significant camera upgrades. The Pro models will likely feature a 48MP main camera with a larger sensor, which will improve low-light performance and image quality. Additionally, the Pro models may also see an upgraded 48MP ultrawide camera, allowing for higher-resolution shots at the highest magnification level.

The new iPhone series is said to reintroduce the vertical camera arrangement seen in the standard models of the iPhone X and 11, along with a redesigned camera bump in an effort to support spatial video recording for Apple’s Vision Pro headset. This feature, along with a rumoured tetraprism 5x optical zoom lens on the Pro models, is likely to offer iPhone 16 users better zoom capabilities and enhance the overall mobile photography experience.

The iPhone 16 will get some subtle design changes along with new functionality

While the iPhone 16 series is rumoured to look very similar to its predecessors in terms of overall design, several subtle changes are expected. In addition to the vertical camera bump on the standard iPhone 16 models, all models are expected to have a new “capture button” designed for easily taking photos and videos, mimicking the functionality of a traditional camera shutter button. This new button will be pressure-sensitive, allowing focusing and capturing images with varying degrees of pressure, according to the report.

Apple is expected to bring the “action button” introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro to all iPhone 16 models as well. This button will replace the mute switch and give users the option of customization to perform various actions, such as activating the flashlight, launching the camera or turning on silent mode.

More power with the iPhone 16

Under the hood, the iPhone 16 series is expected to be powered by either the A18 or A17 Pro chip depending on the model, with the Pro variants getting a more powerful version. This new chip, to be built on the latest 3-nanometer node, will likely bring efficiency and performance improvements, making multitasking smoother and more efficient. An upgrade to 8GB of RAM and default storage starting at 256GB is also on the cards for more space and speed for all user needs.

The new iPhones will also feature Wi-Fi 6E support, which will provide faster and more reliable internet connectivity. According to some rumors, the Pro models may be equipped with Wi-Fi 7, which will further increase internet speed and stability.

Longer and better battery life

Improving battery life is another key focus for the iPhone 16 series. Leaks suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will feature bigger batteries, potentially offering over 30 hours of battery life. This would be a significant jump from the current all-day battery life promise of the iPhone 15 series. Additionally, Apple is reportedly exploring new ways to manage heat dissipation, addressing concerns raised by overheating issues in previous models.

iPhone 16 price and availability

While the exact pricing details are yet to be confirmed, the report suggests that the base model will cost around $799, while the Pro model will be priced between $1,000 and $1,100. Higher storage variants could add a few hundred dollars to these prices. Notably, the iPhone 15 series was launched in India at a starting price of Rs 79,900.
