Apple is reportedly working on an upgrade to the Face ID design for the iPhone 16 series, which is expected to launch in September. Although details about the new design are still under wraps, rumour has it that the change is already hitting Apple’s supply chain partners. This is not the only rumour doing the rounds on the internet. The iPhone 16 series is expected to come with multiple upgrades backed by iOS 18. The most recent of these speculations is a report suggesting a new Face ID design, camera updates, and new chipsets in the iPhone 16 series.

iPhone 16: New Face ID design

The rumour of a new Face ID in the iPhone 16 series surfaced after semiconductor company Coherent indicated that Apple had severed ties with it. Although nothing is clear yet, early rumours indicate that the iPhone 16 Pro models may feature an under-screen Face ID system. However, it is also being speculated that this innovative technology is unlikely to debut before next year. Revisions to the Face ID system for the iPhone 16 series are still possible, even if the major change is delayed.

Apple may still make adjustments to Face ID on the iPhone 16 models, but it is unclear whether these changes will bring significant improvements, such as faster authentication. The company regularly updates internal components for new iPhone generations, but these updates do not always bring new features or obvious benefits for customers.

iPhone 16 Pro: Camera updates

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming iPhone 16 series will feature a major camera upgrade, as the advanced tetraprism lens, previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, will now be standard on both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. medium In the report, Kuo explained that the new tetraprism lens will enable 5x optical zoom, which is a substantial improvement over the 3x zoom capability of the current iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, Kuo mentioned that Apple’s primary lens supplier Largan will continue to provide these advanced lenses for the iPhone 16 series.

Rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro models will be slightly enlarged in size, potentially creating enough space to accommodate a tetraprism lens. This design change will remove the physical barrier that prevents larger zoom lenses from being integrated into the smaller iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, other design changes, such as a possible switch to touch-sensitive buttons with haptic feedback and a vertical camera layout, are speculated to be part of the new models.

Meanwhile, all four models in the iPhone 16 series are expected to be powered by the same-generation Apple A18 chip, which will deliver a consistent performance boost. The new devices will also run on iOS 18, which promises to offer users several new features and improvements. Additionally, rumours suggest that the Pro models may see a refresh rate bump and improved battery life, improving the overall user experience.
