The iPhone 16 series will finally launch in a couple of weeks. Although Apple is yet to announce the launch date of its 2024 iPhones, leaks have claimed that the iPhone 16 event is not too far away and the new devices could arrive on September 10. This seems credible as Apple has a track record of launching its set of new iPhones in September every year. The company has mostly announced its previous models in the second or third week of this month. If Apple plans to launch the devices any day between September 10 and 15, the iPhone 16 series is expected to be officially announced in the first week of September. In the meantime, here is a look at the leaked display, camera, design, chipset, battery and other details of the upcoming iPhones. Apple is likely to introduce 4 models including the iPhone 16, Plus, Pro and Pro Max.

iPhone 16, Pro, Pro Max: Design changes?

Last year, Apple also brought the punch-hole design to the standard iPhone 16 model and added an action button to the Pro model. This year, the company is expected to introduce a capture button for a better photography experience. It could help provide zooming functions or act as a quick camera shutter. We will get clarity on this when Apple officially launches the iPhone 16 series in the coming weeks. Additionally, Apple is set to make the action button more accessible for users who buy the standard or Plus models.

The leaked images of the iPhone 16 also revealed that Apple has changed the position of the back camera sensors and the dual camera setup will reportedly be seen in a vertical camera layout. Lastly, Apple may announce a new rose colour to give people more choices in colours. It is being said that the yellow colour may also be discontinued. As per the leak, the standard edition and the iPhone 16 Plus may come in black, green, pink and white colours.

iPhone 16, Pro, Pro Max: Display details leaked

Apple is also said to be planning to increase the display size of select models. The iPhone 16 Pro models are said to have slightly larger screens, with the regular Pro model growing from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and the Pro Max growing from 6.7 inches to around 6.9 inches. These larger displays will likely improve the overall viewing experience, but people may have problems handling the device with one hand.

iPhone 16, Pro, Pro Max: New chipset and more

The iPhone 16 series will likely be powered by the new A18 chip, which promises faster performance and better energy efficiency. All models in the series will also be equipped with 8GB of RAM, which is required to support new Apple intelligence features. Apple is rumored to be working on a graphene thermal system for the iPhone 16 lineup, with the Pro models possibly adding metal battery casings to reduce overheating. Additionally, Apple may consider offering the Pro models with up to 2TB of storage, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

iPhone 16, Pro, Pro Max: Bigger batteries and faster charging likely

If we look at previous leaks, the iPhone 16 is said to have a large 3,561mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 Plus could have a 4,006mAh battery. Chinese Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital has claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 3,577mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have a 4,676mAh battery.

The iPhone 16 series is expected to have 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging support, which will increase the charging time due to the larger battery. However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

iPhone 16, Pro, Pro Max: Camera upgrade?

Apple is testing a new anti-reflective optical coating technology for its iPhone cameras that could improve photo quality by reducing artifacts such as lens flare and ghosting. The coating, applied using atomic layer deposition (ALD) equipment, would also protect the camera lens system from environmental damage without affecting light capture.

The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature an upgraded 48-megapixel ultra wide camera lens, which allows for better low-light performance and 48-megapixel ProRAW photo shooting in ultra wide mode. The iPhone 16 Pro Max may also feature a super telephoto periscope camera, which significantly improves optical zoom capabilities. Both iPhone 16 Pro models may come with support for 5x optical zoom, which is currently limited to only the iPhone 15 Pro Max smartphones.
