Apple has recently concluded its annual developers conference WWDC 2024, and now the next big thing on the cards is the launch of the iPhone 16 series. Expected to arrive in autumn 2024, the next-generation iPhones are rumoured to have some significant upgrades over their predecessors, especially the Pro variants. While we already know that Apple will power the iPhone 16 series with iOS 18, the Pro models are also expected to get the Apple Intelligence feature, a suite of AI features for its users. Apart from iOS 18 and AI, Apple’s flagship lineup is speculated to bring design improvements and improved performance.

As usual, Apple has maintained silence about the next generation iPhone, but the internet is already flooded with leaks and rumours, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the next version of the flagship device. Here is a brief summary of everything we know so far about the upcoming iPhone Pro models.

iPhone 16 Pro release date and price

Based on Apple’s historical launch pattern, the iPhone 16 Pro is likely to be unveiled in early September, possibly between September 3 and 11 and sales will begin a week later. As for the price, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to start at around $999 in the US. Notably, in India, Apple launched its iPhone 15 series at a starting price of Rs 1,34,900.

Expected design and display of iPhone 16 Pro

The iPhone 16 Pro is rumoured to feature a 6.3-inch display, slightly larger than the 6.1-inch screen of its previous model. The display is expected to be taller and thinner with a 19.6:9 aspect ratio compared to the earlier 19.5:9. Apple may also use a new micro-lens array (MLA) OLED technology for this model, resulting in a screen that will be 20 per cent brighter, possibly reaching 1,200 nits for standard brightness.

In terms of design, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to retain the titanium frame introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro, but it may have an even sleeker look with smaller 1.2mm bezels. The Face ID components may be hidden under the display, which could further enhance the aesthetics of the device.

Additionally, continuing the trend set by the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16 Pro is also expected to retain the titanium frame and USB-C port. However, one of the most exciting rumours is the possible shift of capacitive buttons to a new “capture” button dedicated to volume, power, and camera functions. These solid-state buttons will replace the traditional physical buttons, providing a more durable and responsive user interface.

Camera upgrade expected in iPhone 16 Pro

Camera upgrades are always a focal point for new iPhones, and the iPhone 16 Pro will be no exception to this. The main camera is rumoured to remain a 48-megapixel sensor, while the ultra-wide camera could upgrade from 12-megapixels to 48-megapixels. There are also reports that Apple is planning to introduce a new periscope telephoto lens offering 5x optical zoom, a feature that is currently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iPhone 16 Pro performance

Under the hood, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to be powered by the new A3 Pro chipset built on a 18-nanometer process, which promises improved performance and efficiency. Paired with 8GB of RAM, this chipset will support the latest iOS 18 features, including advanced AI capabilities for tasks like smart photo editing and more sophisticated Siri functionality.

Storage options could also see improvements, with maximum capacity potentially reaching 2TB, double the current limit. This expansion will likely be achieved through new, more compact and cost-effective storage technologies.

The device is also expected to support the latest Wi-Fi 7 and feature a new 5G modem for faster connectivity. The report also suggests the inclusion of a new thermal management system to prevent overheating by using graphene-based technology for better heat dissipation.

Expected color variants of iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 Pro is rumoured to be available in Space Black, White, Grey, and a new Rose colour, which will replace the previous Titanium Blue option. Apple may also introduce an improved finish process for the titanium body, resulting in a shinier and more scratch-resistant surface.
