We are all set to see the launch of Apple’s next-generation flagship iPhone 16 series on Monday, September 9, with four models expected to launch including the iPhone 16 Plus. While Apple is expected to bring significant upgrades to all its models, this launch could also be the last time we see a new Plus model in the lineup. According to various reports, Apple is planning a significant change to its iPhone family in 2025, introducing a new iPhone 17 Slim, and possibly removing the Plus model from the lineup.

According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone Plus, introduced as a larger-sized base model option with the iPhone 14 lineup, could be phased out in favor of the iPhone 17 Slim, similar to how Apple replaced the iPhone mini with the Plus. The move could reportedly be part of Apple’s strategy to renew users’ interest in its standard iPhones, which have been overshadowed by the popularity of the premium Pro models in recent years.

However, the iPhone 17 Slim might not replace the Plus. Instead, Kuo suggests the iPhone 17 Slim will be a completely new addition, likely aimed at iPhone users who prioritise aesthetics and design over the cutting-edge camera features found in the Pro versions.

Several other reports, including one from analysts Jeff Pu and Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, also suggest that the iPhone 17 Slim will be a thinner, more design-focused device, possibly featuring a 6.6-inch display. Kuo and Pu suggest that it may feature a titanium-aluminum alloy metal frame and retain the dynamic island cutout that has become a new highlight in iPhone design.

Talking about the upcoming iPhone 16 Plus, this could be the last iPhone Plus, but it is expected to come with many new updates. The iPhone 16 Plus is expected to have a larger 6.7-inch display, continuing Apple’s tradition of offering a large screen option in its lineup. However, unlike the Pro model, the display will have a 60Hz refresh rate.

Both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are said to feature aluminium designs, which contribute to their lightweight build while maintaining a sleek and durable finish. Powered by the new A18 chip, the iPhone 16 Plus is expected to feature significant performance enhancements, ensuring smooth multitasking and efficient processing for various apps and games. Apple will also integrate Apple Intelligence into its standard iPhone 16 models, including the iPhone 16 Plus, to enhance user experience through advanced AI capabilities, such as improved Siri interactions, smarter photo sorting, and more personalised suggestions.

Talking about the camera, the iPhone 16 Plus is expected to feature a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 2x optical zoom, allowing users to capture detailed and wide-angle shots with ease. A 4,006 mAh battery is expected to power the device, which will offer ample battery life that can easily last a full day. Storage options will include 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants, which will meet user needs ranging from medium to heavy data storage.
