It’s time for Apple to refresh its iPhone lineup. The tech giant has confirmed that it will host its fall event – this year it’s ‘Glow Time’ on September 9 – presumably launching the much-awaited iPhone 16 series. As per tradition, Apple is expected to bring significant upgrades in its new-generation iPhone lineup over its predecessor iPhone 15, including better cameras, bigger displays, new and faster chips, and more.
iPhone 16 design and display rumors
The iPhone 16 series is expected to retain the design language of the iPhone 15 series, with some minor changes that could make the new models look slightly different. The standard iPhone 16 model is rumoured to look almost identical to the iPhone 15 from the front, with a 6.1-inch 60Hz OLED screen and the familiar Dynamic Island. The Pro models, on the other hand, are expected to see a size increase with a 6.3-inch display, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max could grow to 6.9 inches. If these rumours prove true, this display change would be the first significant size upgrade in several years.
While the front of the iPhone 16 standard model will be nearly identical, rumours suggest Apple will bring back the vertical camera layout seen on the iPhone X, which would likely make the camera capable of 3D or spatial recording compatible with Apple’s Vision Pro.
Speculation also suggests that Apple is highly likely to include the action button across the entire lineup, unlike when it limited it to the iPhone 15 Pro last year. Additionally, rumours indicate that the iPhone 16 Pro models may include additional buttons, such as a dedicated capture button aimed at enhancing camera control functionality.
iPhone 16 series will get upgraded performance
Another significant upgrade for the iPhone 16 is expected to be in its processor. While the iPhone 15 used the A16 chip, the iPhone 16 is rumoured to have Apple’s latest in-house A18 chip, which is expected to boost the overall performance of the series. The new A18 chips are said to enable on-device AI processing, introducing Apple intelligence across the lineup and significantly improving overall performance, including gaming and multitasking.
To complement the powerful A18 chip, Apple is also rumoured to increase the RAM in the iPhone 16 from 6GB to 8GB, further enhancing performance and multitasking capabilities.
iPhone 16 will have better cameras
While both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 are likely to feature a 48-megapixel primary, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and 12-megapixel selfie camera, the iPhone 16 may get better image sensing processing (ISP) with the A18 chip, which is expected to deliver better photo and video quality. The vertically aligned cameras on the iPhone 16 may also enable users to capture 3D/spatial video recording, a feature that is currently limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Latest Software
Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 will run smoothly on iOS 18. However, the iPhone 16 is expected to get a better experience with Apple intelligence, including improved Siri with ChatGPT integration. Additional AI features exclusive to the iPhone 16 series are also expected at launch.
iPhone 16 price expected to increase
The iPhone 15 is expected to receive a price cut following the launch of the iPhone 16, making it a more affordable option. Although the iPhone 16 is likely to cost more than the iPhone 15 due to production costs, it is expected to have more features and capabilities, making it a worthwhile investment for those wanting the latest and greatest technology.
