iOS 18 was recently announced by Apple at its WWDC 2024 event. While it is set to bring several new features, the beta version of iOS 18 has revealed that the software will also bring significant improvements to the action buttons found on flagships like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple recently announced iOS 18 at its WWDC 2024 event. While it is set to bring several new features, the beta version of iOS 18 has revealed that the software will also bring significant improvements to the action button found on flagships like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The action button was introduced with the Pro models last year, replacing the traditional ring/silent button. Here’s everything to know.
Introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, the Action button is already providing users with a great tool that can be customized for various functions such as toggling ring/silent mode, activating the camera, flashlight, voice memo, magnifier, translate, shortcuts and accessibility features, etc. However, iOS 18 promises to take this customization to the next level.
With the release of iOS 18, users will be able to assign action buttons to a plethora of new functions available in the revamped Control Center gallery. This expanded functionality includes the ability to turn on Dark Mode, Airplane Mode, and Personal Hotspot with the press of a button.
Although some features such as Low Power Mode and Orientation Lock are not directly assignable in the first beta of iOS 18, users can still use Shortcut Actions to incorporate these controls when needed. Integration with Control Center options simplifies access to frequently used settings, making the iPhone experience more intuitive and personal.
Furthermore, there is growing buzz around the rumour that Apple plans to introduce action buttons to all four iPhone 16 models later this year. If true, this would bring the advanced functionality to a wider audience, which would be a huge update for standard iPhone buyers.
At the moment, iOS 18 is available in beta form, with a final release expected in September. As always, early users can test new features in the beta. The iPhone 16 series, which will likely launch in 3 months, is expected to come with iOS 18.
