New details have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the links between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and former ISI Director General Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, reports Express Tribune.
According to sources quoted by The Express Tribune, General Hameed was in touch with Imran Khan through his wife Bushra Bibi. Hameed would reportedly provide Bushra Bibi with information in advance, which she would later pass on to Imran Khan and describe it as divine inspiration.
When this information was later proven to be true, it further strengthened the PTI founder’s belief in Bushra Bibi’s spiritual abilities, while the reality was that it was Mr Hameed who had shared this information.
The investigation following the former ISI chief’s arrest took an unexpected turn when an iPhone found in Chakwal allegedly revealed her links with Imran Khan. According to sources, Bushra Bibi’s patience is running out, The Express Tribune reported.
There are indications that Imran Khan’s wife is considering cooperating with the authorities, possibly testifying in exchange for immunity and distancing herself and her close aide Farah Gogi from the ongoing controversy.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Imran Khan said he was not intimidated by the arrest of General Faiz Hameed, as reported by The Express Tribune.
In an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan said that if he had been afraid, he would not have demanded a judicial commission.
On August 12, the Pakistan Army announced that General Hameed had been arrested for “multiple counts of violations” of the Army Act, ahead of his retirement in December 2022, according to Geo News.
The army further said, “The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody.”
The Pakistan Army said the action against the former ISI chief was in line with the orders of the Supreme Court, which ordered the probe after a land development company called Top City filed a petition in 2023, Geo News reported. The company alleged that Hameed and his brother had acquired ownership of several properties and also blackmailed the company owner.
