India’s Sarvam Indus takes on ChatGPT and Gemini with AI app: How to download, top features
India’s homegrown AI startup Sarvam has quietly released its AI chat app on the Indus App Store. The app is expected to work similar to ChatGPIT, allowing users to interact with the AI in multiple languages. However, there is still a waiting list.
India’s homegrown AI startup, Sarvam, has been making waves recently. The company has made major advances in the AI field, including building two large language models (LLMs) from scratch. Now, it appears that Sarvam has quietly released its AI chat app, Indus, on the App Store.
The Indus app is currently available for download on Apple AppStore and Google’s Play Store. Indus website is also running on the web. However, you may not be able to access it yet.

What is Sarvam Sindhu?
Sindhu is Sarvam’s AI assistant. The app listing says that this AI assistant is designed for Indian users, and is completely made in India. According to the company, users will be able to interact with the AI chatbot in “every Indian language”. It also includes the ability to switch languages mid-conversation, such as going from English to Hindi and vice versa.
Like other chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini, Servum’s Indus will also have voice command functionality. AI will answer your questions by searching the web or doing in-depth research.
What else can Sarvam Sindhu do?
The app listing also states that the Indus app may come with AI agents, that is, users may be able to automate tasks using Sarvam’s AI agents. The company also notes that you’ll be able to write and edit documents right within the app.
Other features include support for uploading images, PDFs, and similar documents. AI can then analyze the information and answer questions based on the file.
Sarvam Indus is based on which AI model?
The Indian AI startup has not clearly explained the AI model behind the Indus app. However, the company released two LLMs, Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B, during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. These two models are the basic models, which are completely manufactured in India. It is possible that the Indus app runs on these models.

Users can download the Sarvam Indus app on Android and iOS or access the website. For now, you can only create your account by verifying your phone number, as there is a waiting list. However according to the app, those who have the invite code can skip this waiting list.
