A disturbing incident at Palm Beach County Hospital has left allegations of attempting to kill a second degree with a 67 -year -old nurse, Leelama Lal, serious injuries and a 33 -year -old man, Stephen Scantellebury.
According to officials, Scantelberry, who was a psychiatry patient at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital, allegedly attacked LAL last Tuesday, leaving him with several facial fractures, a broken collarbone and brain bleeding. The attack, which ran between one to two minutes, was caught on the hospital monitoring footage and is described as cruel and vicious.
Lal’s daughter, Cindy Joseph, narrated the limits of her mother’s injuries, saying, “She had a subdural and sporadic bleeding of the brain, the right part of her face was completely dismissed … she was intubated and unconscious, she was very hurt on her face and did not have swelling in her eyes.”
The affidavit also states that Scantilabury made racist remarks after the attack, “Indians are bad” and “I just defeat an Indian doctor out of an Indian doctor.”
During a pre-testing detention hearing, Palm Beach County Deputy Sergeant. Beth Newcomer testified about the comments of the scentlebury, and Lal’s daughter described the severity of her mother’s injuries.
Scientalbie’s wife testified that he was experiencing pace in the leading days for the attack, assuming that his house was spoiled and he was under supervision. However, the judge denied the request to transfer Scientalbie to mental health facility, called it “prematurely”.
The incident has expressed concern over the safety of medical professionals, with strict security measures with a petition and a petition for difficult punishment for attacks on healthcare workers, which signed more than 10,000 in three days.
One of the organizers of the petition, Dr. Cheryl Thomas-Harkam said, “Leela dedicated her life to this profession, and at the end of her career tail, she had to bear something so vicious.”
Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indian Nurse Association of South Florida, Dr. Manju Samuel urged the MPs to work, saying, “There is no specific law for the safety of healthcare staff. That deficiency should be addressed.”
LAL on ventilator support continues in intensive care.
