Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national accused of conspiring to murder Khalistani terrorist and American citizen Gurpatwant Singh Pannu on US soil, has been extradited to the US from the Czech Republic, news agency Reuters reported, citing the Federal Bureau of Prisons website and a source familiar with the matter.
A search by name on the Bureau of Prisons website on Sunday (June 16) showed Gupta, 52, was being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a federal administrative detention center. In addition, a source independently confirmed Gupta’s extradition and his detention in Brooklyn to Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Last month, a Czech court rejected Nikhil Gupta’s plea to avoid being deported to the US, paving the way for the Czech Republic’s justice minister to extradite him.
Gupta was arrested in the Czech Republic on June 30 last year on charges that he was involved in a murder conspiracy. According to US federal prosecutors, Gupta was implicated in a plot to hire an assassin to murder an American citizen, allegedly on the instructions of an Indian government official. The target was identified as Pannun.
