India Today Impact: Center issues notice to Ax over grok AI that created obscene images of women
In a major impact to India Today, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a strict notice to social media platform X regarding misuse of its Grok AI tool. The government has identified that Grok is being used to create and disseminate indecent, non-consensual deepfake images of women. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who raised the issue with IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, said, ‘It is extremely scary that we live in a time where we, as women… live under constant threat of misuse of our photographs.’ The ministry has ordered X to conduct a comprehensive review and submit an action taken report within 72 hours or face legal consequences.

A 19-year-old student of Government Degree College, Dharamshala has died after allegedly being ragged and sexually assaulted. The victim, who died on December 26 after a two-month battle in hospital, had recorded a video accusing Professor Ashok Kumar of obscene behaviour. Three senior female students – Harshita, Aakriti and Komolika – have also been booked for assault and threatening. Kangra Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Ratan addressed the delay in naming the professor in the initial FIR, saying, ‘Initially, at this stage, it will be very difficult to say what is right and what is wrong.’ He confirmed that the investigation is still in its initial stages and the police will proceed based on emerging facts and relevant sections of the law.
