India fights obesity to give health warnings to samosas and jalebis
The central government, similar to cigarette warnings, is considering implementing health warnings on popular snacks such as samosas and jalebis, as the country struggles with rising obesity rates. This step comes when India doubles obesity levels in the last decade and keeps the world’s diabetes position. The order of the Health Secretary mentions that obese population is expected to increase to 44.9 crores by 2045. The purpose of the initiative is to provide information about oil and sugar content in these foods, especially in some institutions such as AIIMS. However, concerns are raised about the practicality of implementation and lack of attention to ultra-sensitive foods.
