According to ARY News report, Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was warned by the local administration to follow the NOC guidelines of the rally, which required them to vacate the venue by 7 pm.
At the Sangjani rally on Sunday, the district magistrate issued multiple warnings to vacate the venue. But the rally exceeded the permit’s time limit, forcing the police and administration to take action against them, reports ARY News.
According to ARY News, participants coming from a different route clashed with police as PTI workers resorted to stone-pelting, forcing police to fire tear gas shells in Chungi No. 26 area.
A police spokesperson told ARY News that the rally participants deviated from the designated route and attacked police. Several officers, including SSP Safe City Shoaib Khan, were injured as stone-pelting continued.
Pakistan’s Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi took note of the situation and sought a report from the Inspector General of Islamabad and directed to provide the best medical facilities to the injured police officers. In a phone conversation with the injured SSP Shoaib Khan, Mohsin Naqvi enquired about his health and stressed the need for the best treatment for all the injured officers involved in the incident.
The PTI alleged that police opened fire on its members during a rally in Islamabad on Sunday, which was being organised to demand the release of party founder and jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf released a video in which they shared visuals of the rally and said, “You can put a person in jail but not his ideas.” He was referring to PTI leader and founder Imran Khan.
Photos of the protest outside the Pakistani embassy in Norway demanding the release of Imran Khan were also shared on the party’s official account.
The post said, “Protest in front of Pakistani Embassy in Oslo Norway to show solidarity with Imran Khan and his fight for justice and democracy.”
