Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraja once again made headlines by sending legal notice to the makers of a film – this time, Ajit Kumar’s Good Bad Bed Ugly. He has allegedly demanded heavy compensation of Rs 5 crore on unauthorized use of his songs and has also sought official apology. Reacting to the notice, Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar finally broke his silence, the good bad ugly producer of Mythri filmmakers.
Talking to Hindustan Times, he said, “We have taken permission from all the music labels for the songs we use in the film. We have the label rights, so we have followed the protocol and took NOC from them. We have done things by the book.”
According to News18, Ilaiyaraja said in his legal notice that three of his songs were used in good bad ugly without approval. These include Sakalakala Vallavan to Imai Idho Idho, Nattupura Patu to Ota Rubayam Tharen and V from Vikram N Jodi Manja Kuruvi.
He said that filmmakers used songs without or without their consent. According to the notice, the act is a clear case of “copyright violation”. It also breaks their moral rights as the original manufacturer. He clarified that he never allowed any form for the songs used for the film in any way.
Ilaiyaraja has also sought Rs 5 crore as compensation from the team behind Ajit’s film. Also, he urged him to stop the use of his songs in the project immediately. He insisted on receiving a formal written apology to use his work without further consent.
“Remove the converted versions of the songs of Ota Rubayam Threren from Tamil film Nattupura Pattu, Ilamai Idho Idho and N Jodi Mana from Tamil film Sakalam Vallavan read from Tamil film Vikram and all platforms where they were published or performed,” read a part.
However, despite this controversy, Good Bad is doing well in ugly cinemas. The film stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Priya Prakash Warrier and many other lead roles with Ajit Kumar.
