IcfaiTech, Hyderabad inaugurated its center for VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration). The facility was inaugurated by Ajay Chaudhary, co-founder of HCL and chairman of EPIC Foundation. This initiative is set to establish ICFiTech as a hub of innovation and collaboration in the global semiconductor industry.

During the event, Choudhary highlighted the transformative potential of VLSI technology, emphasizing its important role in driving advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and high-performance computing. He said such innovation is essential to shape India’s modern digital landscape and establish the country as a global technology leader. “Cutting-edge research in VLSI is essential to fuel innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, IoT and high-performance computing,” he said.

Emphasizing the importance of transformation from a service-oriented economy to a product-driven nation, Choudhary lauded government initiatives like “Make in India” to promote indigenous product development. He underlined the need to invest in science and technology to strengthen India’s global competitiveness and encouraged promoting a start-up ecosystem focused on hardware innovation.

Recognizing the challenges posed by automation and artificial intelligence, Chaudhary urged to leverage these technologies for product development, especially in areas such as quantum computing, AI chips and advanced semiconductors. He believes that such advancements can revolutionize India’s technological landscape and redefine it as a “product nation”.

The VLSI Center is aligned with the strategic initiatives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) such as ChipIN Center and C2S, which aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem. Equipped with resources such as Synopsis EDA tools, FPGA-based Xilinx boards and Texas Analog Design Boards, the center provides students and researchers with hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Professor KL Narayan, Director, Equitech, emphasized the centre’s multidisciplinary approach to research and innovation while supporting the “Make in India” approach by training skilled professionals in the semiconductor sector.

The inauguration, which was attended by faculty, students and industry experts, marked a milestone for ICFiTech in its commitment to advance India’s technological capabilities and promote academic excellence. The vision of the center promises to significantly contribute to the country’s semiconductor ecosystem and foster global innovation.
