"I was scared I was going to die": Family was given pesticide mixed in juice at cafe

In a shocking incident, a family in Perth, Australia was served pesticides disguised as juice at a restaurant. The couple, Marcus and Michelle Lemin, had ordered cranberry juice for their daughters at Mickey’s Italian restaurant on June 28. Now, concerned parents claim they were given a pink mixture of lamp oil and citronella torch. Marcus Lemin sniffed the liquid and requested to be shown the bottle it came from. He said staff refused at first, saying it was just “old cranberry juice”.

However, he eventually got the bottle from the refrigerator. The man said he was given a pesticide containing citronella from the beverage refrigerator. According to the report, the bottle said “Plus Bifenthrin” and had a warning. “The manager didn’t want to give my husband the bottle, and another waiter stood up and told everyone that everything was fine,” Michelle said.

The family was rushed to the hospital, where they showed several symptoms and were kept under observation for six hours. The mother added, “My daughters had burning sensations in their stomachs, their fingers and hands were tingling. They had headaches… it was horrible.”

Twelve-year-old Hannah said 9News It was “really disgusting, and that’s what you want insect repellent to taste like.” Olivia said, “It felt like someone had put fire on your stomach and it felt like needles were sticking into your arms and legs.”

A complaint has been lodged with the health department and the local council. The restaurant said it was investigating the incident. An employee told 9News the situation was “very concerning”. “There is a full investigation going on and I will let you know when I find out what happened,” he said.
