I was not on Air India Flight 171, but I have not stopped giving relief to the horror
I cannot stop what happened to Air India flight 171. This has brought back the old fear of my flight, which is stronger than ever.
Based on true events
It was 12 o’clock in the morning when I got a call from my father, there is no possibility for anyone, which is usually in bed till 11 am.
“Hello, your mother and sister’s phones are still closed. Are they landed?” A restless voice asked from the other end.
“It is raining in Mumbai, perhaps this is the reason for the delay,” I tried to calm her, although I was equally worried about her goodness. “Don’t worry, they will probably get down in any moment.”
I was just about to investigate the situation of the flight when my sister messed up: “landed.”
I breathed a sigh of relief, called Dad, told him that he had landed, and fell asleep.
The incident I am talking about is from June 16, when Air India flight 171 crashed in Meghaninagar neighborhood of Ahmedabad, when 241 out of 242 passengers in the board were killed.
Life is not the same
It has been almost six months, but the year has brought bad news than good.
It seems that we are moving from one bad dream to another, even each incident has been left behind without receiving time to recur from trauma – whether it is a terrorist attack on unarmed tourists in Basaron Valley, Kashmir, who killed 26 citizens, or Air India sent our spines in an accident.
We were not when these incidents happened, and I am sure many of us thanked our stars for this, but we have trusted every moment of those horrific events every day through social media and news coverage. And it is far away from a good feeling.
Air India Crash has ruled my frightening fear as a flight.
I know a neighbor who converted his Air India tickets to Dubai and ensured that he has booked a separate airline. If it does not mean any refund, then it is so.
I have always flying an worried (anxiety comes from fear of an accident), and felt as if my worst dream has come true. Once you are on the ship, your life depends entirely on the pilot, and of course, on the aircraft, which we mostly believe that it is in the right position.
After all, who will allow a faulty aircraft to fly, right? This is human life that we are talking about.
But the allegations otherwise suggest.
The Sata Stories
I was not on that terrible flight, but whatever story I read about the passengers, it makes me feel close to his life.
What will happen now that they have gone? For some, it was a trip that promised a new beginning happiness; For others, only a reunion with loved ones. All this became silent at once.
Worse than this is thinking about his last moments.
what would happen? How did they react? Was it painful?
These questions may look insensitive, but they come from a calm, persistent fear: if I was ever in that situation, what would happen really?
After all, these were just regular travelers, such as you and me, who rode in a afternoon flight, everything ended in just a few seconds.
Social media makes it worse
Social media has also not been helpful. While many influential people are busy suggesting which flights (Airbus or Boeing) fly to escape, conspiracies are sharing their own disintegrated versions of the story.
Then there are astrologers, warned people not to fly on some dates due to mercury regressive. I usually do not believe in astrology, but this time, I gave. And now, I am really reconsideration whether I should travel this year.
Since the accident, a steady stream of updates has been found about diverting flights, sometimes due to technical snags, sometimes bomb threats, and somehow, Air India seems to be at the center of every bad news.
A fear shared by many people
Just when I felt that I was alone in feeling like this, the frequent dreaded, what infiltration, I realized that this is not just a personal fight with fear. I am not the only one that I am booking ticket tickets or “the safest airlines 2025” from 2 pm.
Zoom out, and you will see that it is not some nervous flag, which is struggling with post-cross gitors. The collective mental health toll of such tragedies is deep and broad as we like to accept.
“When an accident of this scale occurs, there is something unprecedented in recent aviation history, it shakes the spirit of security of the people,” Dr. Vishnu Ged, explains the advisory psychiatrist at Atete Hospital. “Even if you are not directly involved, the mind does not always make that difference. You are still processing trauma, just the other hand (strange trauma).”
Dr. According to Ged, it is not just a vague. Many of us who are feeling can show as a very real phobia, fear of flight (av fromphobia), increasing anxiety, even nervousness attacks, especially when these phenomena are obscured via news or social media.
Remedy, Dr. Ged tension, support systems are important – family, friends, and yes, needs therapy – especially if anxiety is beyond a few weeks, starts affecting sleep, or disrupts daily functioning.
Apart from this, something else that he said is true that the heart is going to break:
“In another month, people will move forward. This is the world in which we live. But for some people, especially those who were impressed, even indirectly, do not leave fear. It is quietly, our choice, our habits, we are hesitant to book that next ticket.”
