Collin Gosselin, 20, who starred on the Kate Plus 8 reality show, explained during a recent interview why he was kicked out of the Marines despite reaching the final stages of training and graduating.
According to People magazine, the 20-year-old told Entertainment Tonight that he is no longer preparing to join the US Army. He said, “I have been discharged.” The reality show star said he was in the final stages of his training and graduation, and when the paperwork was checked, it was discovered he had been institutionalized at some point in his life.
He said that he didn’t need any deeper reason behind it. Being institutionalized is enough reason for him to fire someone. Even after this, Collin claimed that he was trying to appeal the decision because he only had a few desires in his life, and the biggest desire was to become a “United States Marine.”
He said that he did not know what was happening and he did not know where he was going. Describing this, he said that he was the most scared in his life. Colin said that he did not even say goodbye to his siblings.
Speaking about his mother Kate, he claimed she only visited him once for 30 minutes. “The whole time she just lectured me and said I ruined our family,” Colin said, adding, “Our family was in the headlines 24/7… I’m sure the reason they sent me away was to protect my mother’s reputation.”
For those who don’t know, the 20-year-old’s mom and his dad, John, have raised twins, Cara and Madeline, as well as six kids, Collin, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, Joel, and Hannah. However, the couple’s marriage didn’t last long; they decided to divorce in 2009, and Kate won custody of her kids. She then sent Collin to an institution, due to his “unpredictable and violent behavior,” according to People.
Back in 2019, Kate told the outlet that the 20-year-old had “special needs.” To which Colin responded to ET in 2022 that it was unfortunate that Kate describes him that way as a person. He said that he didn’t see those things and he doesn’t think anyone else sees them that way. He said, “You know, I don’t see those things, and I don’t think anyone else sees them, but if she sees me that way, then, you know, that’s her perspective.”
