Jodie Sweetin tried to steal a huge souvenir from the Fuller House set – the Sea Papi statue under the Tanner house stairs. The whole statue was too hard to carry so she opted for the head but eventually she was caught!
The actress, who plays the middle Tanner child Stephanie in Netflix’s Full House reboot, shared the funny incident during a candid chat with PEOPLE while promoting her back-to-school partnership with Ollie. Her sitcom uncle John Stamos famously took home the blue and white checkered couch that was the centerpiece of the Tanner house and most scenes.
Though Sweetin’s souvenir wish wasn’t all that ambitious, she did have a tough time taking the statue’s head home. “I tried carrying the whole thing, but it was too cumbersome,” she told the outlet. On the show’s finale night, “it was hard to walk out of there without anyone noticing I was carrying a giant statue.”
However, when she walked out with just the head, she was stopped and the head was taken back. “They were like, ‘You can’t take it until we inventory it.’ So, I basically tried to steal Sea Papi’s head,” she joked.
The team later gifted the head to her in the most exciting way. A few weeks later her doorbell rang, she opened the door and saw Sea Papi’s head. “It was the best moment,” she said. Turns out sticking a sticky note to the head and claiming it was hers was worth the effort!
In 2021, during Sweetin’s appearance on the late Bob Saget’s podcast, Bob Saget’s Here for You, she showed off her hard-earned trophy. “The Sea Papi head was a mission. It was a big deal,” she told the host. However, Sweetin revealed that she has a “Styrofoam replica” instead of the wooden one that the team recreated.
“I would have helped you pick the whole thing up. I was there,” Saget said. “Well, I mean we could go look for it,” Sweetin joked. “Somewhere, there’s a headless Papi,” she joked. Stream all five seasons of Fuller House on Netflix!
