The Three Women star Shailene Woodley recalled when she signed up for the lead role in Divergent and then suffered a health scare that almost killed her. In a conversation with Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thais Aliabadi on their podcast, SHE MD, the Spectacular Now star revealed that she experienced discomfort in almost every part of her body.
She couldn’t hear properly and couldn’t walk for more than five minutes. The actress also revealed that she would get a stomachache if she ate anything.
Elaborating on the health conditions, the Fault in Our Stars actress told the podcast host, “I was losing my hearing. I couldn’t walk for more than five minutes at a time and I had to lie down and sleep for hours. Anything I ate would upset my stomach.” She further added that the doctors did not explain any of the symptoms. One of them attributed it to stress, while another person attributed the symptoms to thyroid.
Elaborating further, the Hollywood star revealed that she was questioning a lot of things, such as, “I’ve always eaten a very healthy diet and I’m very athletic. And so, for me, it was a confusing process of, ‘Well, what am I doing wrong? Why do I faint every month when I have my period? Why am I hypothyroid? Why is this happening to me?’”

Speaking about the doctor’s analysis of her health issues, the Big Little Lies actress said, “One doctor said, ‘It’s probably endometriosis.’ And another doctor says, ‘It’s probably this.’ And another one says, ‘It’s probably that.’ ‘Your uterus is tilted. Your uterus is heart-shaped.’ Everybody I went to gave me mixed information, and that set me on my journey.”
However, the actress recovered well from her problems and returned to the set of Divergent. Woodley played Beatrice Prior opposite Theo James, better known by his character name Four. Other cast members included Miles Teller, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz, and Ansel Elgort. The films are available to stream on Netflix.
