BTS’s agency Bighit Music has shared an update on the legal proceedings.

HYBE Corporation, the powerhouse entertainment company behind global sensations such as BTS, SEVENTEEN and TXT, has released an official statement providing an update on its ongoing legal actions against malicious activities targeting its artists, particularly BTS. The company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its artists from defamation, privacy violations and other harmful behavior committed by malicious actors.

In their statement, HYBE details the progress of multiple lawsuits launched in response to derogatory comments, false rumors, and privacy violations that have been plaguing their artists. These actions are part of HYBE’s broader strategy to protect the well-being and reputation of their talent in an era where online harassment and cyberbullying have become increasingly prevalent.

HYBE revealed that several individuals responsible for spreading malicious and false information about their artists have been identified and are currently facing legal consequences. The company has worked closely with legal authorities and cybercrime units to ensure that these offenders are held accountable for their actions.

Official statement shared by HYBE

“We regularly take legal action against writers who post malicious posts about BTS, including defamation, personal attacks, sexual harassment, spreading misinformation, and malicious criticism. We would like to provide an update on our progress. This quarter, we have continued to gather evidence of activities that violate the artist’s rights, including personal attacks and defamation, through fan reports and our internal monitoring system. As a result, we have filed multiple complaints with the investigating agency.”

In addition to legal proceedings, HYBE has implemented advanced cybersecurity measures to more effectively detect and mitigate malicious online activities. The company has established a dedicated task force composed of cybersecurity experts and legal professionals who will monitor and address any emerging threats in real-time.

“We would like to clarify once again that there is no relationship between BIGHIT MUSIC and BTS and Body and Brain. The rumors circulating alleging that the artist or the artist’s songs have a connection to Body & Brain are fictitious. Upon learning of Body & Brain’s illegal use of BTS’s intellectual property rights, we immediately demanded the removal of the relevant content and received a commitment to prevent any such occurrences in the future. If similar issues arise in the future, we will take decisive legal action to uphold and protect artists’ intellectual property rights in line with our principles. Similarly, in February, we made a cease and desist request to Global Cyber University to prevent the unauthorized use of BTS’s intellectual property rights. We would also like to clarify that rumors of covert chart manipulation and unethical marketing are fabricated and completely unrelated to the artist.”

He then added in the statement, “In 2022, we had filed a lawsuit against the YouTube channel Sojang for defamation and obstruction of business and the investigating agency had earlier decided to suspend the investigation. However, with our persistent requests to resume the investigation and the provision of our personal information about Sojang to the investigating agency, the case has been reopened and is currently being investigated. An additional civil lawsuit was filed earlier this year to seek damages for defamation and other illegal acts committed by Sojang and the trial is expected to begin soon.”

HYBE concluded their statement with a message addressed to fans, saying, “We are continuously making efforts to collect, report, and take legal action against malicious posts about the members of BTS, who are currently completing their mandatory military service. Our legal efforts will continue while their posts are vacant and we will take strong action against the suspects. No leniency or compromise will be given under any circumstances. Please feel free to report to BIGHIT MUSIC’s official legal response hotline by emailing protect@bighitmusic.co.kr.”

As HYBE leads the campaign against malicious activity, their firm stance is a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting artists’ rights and well-being in the digital age.
