Huawei takes on Apple iPhone Air with Mate 70 Air, here’s how it’s different
Huawei has launched Mate 70 Air in China. The ultra-slim device has a large 7-inch OLED screen, and a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery.


Huawei has launched the Mate 70 Air in China, pitching it as an ultra-slim device compared to the iPhone Air. The Mate 70 Air measures just 6.6mm thick and weighs 206 grams, while it emphasizes its celestial-inspired aesthetic with gold threading, brocade silk accents and a glowing star-ring effect.

The Mate 70 Air comes with a ‘celestial-inspired’ design. The phone has a large circular camera module with gold accents. The device is quite thin at 6.6mm, but slightly thicker than the 5.6mm iPhone Air.
The Huawei Mate 70 Air comes with a 7-inch FHD+ OLED display that supports 1.07 billion colors, P3 wide color gamut, and reaches a peak brightness of 4000nits, offering vivid audio and HDR certification for immersive media.
This Mate 70 Air features Kunlun glass for drop resistance and ultra-durable brocade fiber for impact resistance. The device also comes with IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.

On the photography front, the Mate 70 Air is equipped with a versatile camera system. The rear setup includes a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide macro camera, and a 1.5MP multispectral Red Maple True Color sensor.
The front camera is a 10.7MP ultra-wide unit for selfies and group video calls. AI-powered features like AI-assisted composition, Ultra HD panorama, AI portrait retouching and AI glare removal enhance photo quality and provide creative options.
Huawei Mate 70 Air performance
The Mate 70 Air is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9000 series processor. The 12GB variant uses the Kirin 9020B, while the 16GB variant uses the Kirin 9020A. These processors are the flagship chipsets from the Chinese phone manufacturer.
The Mate 70 Air offers 256GB or 512GB of internal storage along with 12GB or 16GB of RAM without memory card support.
The Huawei Mate 70 Air comes with a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, allowing for a slim profile. The device supports 66W SuperCharge and is coupled with a vapor chamber heat dissipation system for better thermal efficiency. The Mate 70 Air does not support wireless charging.
Running on HarmonyOS 5.1, the Mate 70 Air brings features like AI Air Transfer, AI noise cancellation, tap-to-share, AI face-swap detection, and stylus support for annotations and extractions. The phone also supports satellite messaging. The audio experience is supported by Huawei Histen sound effects, which offers stereo output.

The Mate 70 Air is available in three finishes: Gold Thread and Silver Brocade, Feather Robe White and Radiant Gold Black. Price in China starts at 4,199 Yuan (roughly Rs. 52,000) for the 12GB/256GB model. The 12GB/512GB and 16GB/256GB models are priced at 4,699 Yuan (approximately Rs 58,400). The top-end 16GB/512GB variant of the Mate 70 Air will be priced at 5,199 Yuan (roughly Rs. 64,600).
