A masala that can be found on every table with almost every meal – from fast food to even Indian staples such as parathas – also has a quintament tomato ketchup. It is dripping on burgers, sandwiches, patties, potato fries etc. and we can safely say that it is difficult to imagine any of them without tomato ketchup. And when we keep using tomato sauce and ketchup alternately, they are not really the same. Yes, you read that right!

While we can say tomato ketchup in our kitchen pantry as sauce, they are both quite different. First things first, ketchup can be a sauce but not all sauces are ketchup. The ketchup is cold and never warm as a rule. On the other hand, the sauce is used in cooking and is usually served hot. The sauce is a universal word – it can be spaghetti sauce, barbecue sauce or steak sauce.

With this definition, we usually use as a spice in our homes. Store-Kharida ketchup can be incredibly unhealthy with much salt, sugar and unhealthy fats. But do you know that you can make your own ketchup at home? Making tomato ketchup at home is a very easy task. We have found a super easy tomato ketchup recipe that you can try at home. In this recipe, tomatoes and garlic are cooked together, stressed and cooked further until they become thicker with sugar, salt, garam masala, chili powder and vinegar. You can store in an airtight container and use it with what you want.

Unlike ketchup, the sauce, the Latin word is derived from Salas which means “salty” and, the medium of cooking, acts aimed at the purpose of the meat tender and helps to enhance the taste of any dish. Whereas, the word ketchup, is believed to be originated from the Chinese word ‘cochiap’, which means “fish salty”. Around the seventeenth century, it was related to a sauce in which fish salty, herbs and spices were included as the main material. Later, the word was used to refer to all sauces as a material with vinegar. Subsequently, it was associated with tomatoes and since then ‘Katchup’ started connecting with ‘sauce’ in everyday spoken language. While both can be combined with each other, they are definitely not the same thing.

So next time you prepare a batch of fries at home, pair them with some fresh homemade tomato ketchup, not the sauce!
