Sweet potato, or shakarkandi, is a favorite winter dish for its taste and nutrition. From hearty snacks and main dishes to desserts, sweet potatoes can do it all. However, a common problem while cooking them is that they become soft and mushy while boiling. Once overripe they become a difficult challenge to harvest. But here’s the good news: A clever hack has surfaced on social media that will help you boil sweet potatoes while maintaining their firmness.
The viral video shared by Rupam Sehatya on Instagram shows an easy step-by-step method. She starts by pouring oil in a pan on low-medium flame and uses a brush to coat the base evenly. She then places three sweet potatoes in the pan and covers them with a wet cloth. Another cloth is placed over it and then a lid is placed. After gently steaming the sweet potatoes, she peels and cuts them with ease, demonstrating how the method keeps them from turning mushy.
