edmund bridgertonEdmund Bridgerton’s inclusion in the Bridgerton series is quite significant, even though he is not physically present except for some of his brief glimpses in the series. He proposed and romanced her at a very young age, and the couple went on to have eight children. Unfortunately, Edmund died from a bee sting and was unable to provide for his large family when their last child was still very young, leaving Violet to provide for them.
PurpleViolet, the widowed Viscountess Bridgerton, is a charming and loving mother who raises the children after her husband’s death. Portrayed by Ruth Gemmell, she is described as not only an affectionate mother but also a lifelong friend of Lady Danbury who supports her and has a connection to Queen Charlotte.
Jonathan BaileyJonathan Bailey plays the most important character in the series as the eldest brother Anthony Bridgerton, who is a Viscount and fulfills all the responsibilities of his father’s position. Brought in to marry Edwina Sharma, a bride suitable for an Indian gentleman, Anthony crosses paths with Edwina’s half-sister Kate Sharma, who turns from an enemy to a lover.
Samantha Sharma: Samantha Sharma aka Kate, now a woman of very high rank as the wife of Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, is played by Simone Ashley. She is best described as the older sister, especially as she protects her younger brother, as well as her love for horseback riding.
Born and raised as the daughter of Mr. William Burton, who was also the son of Sir Richard Burton, Kate lost her mother at an early age, and her father later remarried Lady Mary Sheffield Sharma, who raised her. Having changed her status from an abandoned, penniless girl to a viscountess, Kate now faces a new and challenging role as the mother of her and Anthony’s first-born child.
unnamed baby bridgertonAs for the Bridgerton baby, he hasn’t been shown on the show yet since he was born to Anthony and Kate, but it would be logical to assume he may have been born in India while the couple was traveling there.
Benedict Bridgerton: Benedict Bridgerton is one of the Bridgerton siblings; he is the second eldest and plays an artist and adventurer on the show, and Luke Thompson is the actor. There is no mention of Benedict having a wife, and unlike his older brother, Antony, he enjoys the freedom within the family to pursue his art.
colin bridgertonColin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, is the third in the line of Bridgerton children but is not a major character in the book series. In Season 3 he marries Penelope Featherington after traveling across Europe to gain valuable experience. Colin is a friend of the protagonist, Eleanor, and is renowned for excellent writing; therefore, for the secretly talented columnist Penelope, Colin is the best choice.
Penelope Featherington: Featherington is the youngest daughter of Lord Featherington and Lady Featherington, standing between her sisters, Prudence Featherington, played by Tom Mann, and Philippa Featherington, played by Emma Walsh. Initially portrayed as Eloise’s best friend, Penelope quickly transforms into Lady Whistledown, one of Regency London’s most famous escorts. So far, this show changer has significantly disrupted the existing dynamics of the Bridgerton and Featherington families.
Baby Lord FeatheringtonPenelope and Colin’s illegitimate son, born at the end of Season 3, is called Baby Lord Featherington according to his mother, and is recognized by everyone, but his name is kept a secret.
Daphne Bridgerton: Daphne Bridgerton is the fourth of five children and the first daughter of the Bridgerton family, played by the talented actress Phoebe Dynevor. At first, Daphne cannot find a potential husband, so she plans a fake romance with the Duke of Hastings as a means of achieving the desired goal and finding a husband, but in the end, the two protagonists fall in love.
Daphne and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page, are wonderful characters, and they have a son they have named August, although he is popularly called Augie.
Simon Bassett/Duke of Hastings: It depicts the early life of the male protagonist Simon Basset, known as the Duke of Hastings, who had a strained relationship with his father and was a young boy when he lost his mother. Even though he does not have a positive attitude towards marriage at the beginning of the show, he forms a deep and meaningful relationship with Daphne, while Lady Danbury is almost like a mother to him.
August HastingsAugust Hastings is the eldest child of Daphne and Simon, bringing a new balance of power to their family.
Eloise Bridgerton: Claudia Jessie plays Eloise Bridgerton, the 5th child of the family who has intelligence and is an independent thinker. They are no longer together, but fans of the books are eager to hear new stories from them. Penelope Featherington is one of the main characters and a close friend of Eloise; it should be noted that Penelope, also known as Lady Whistledown, has a few things to hide.
Francesca BridgertonFrancesca Bridgerton, played by Ruby Stokes and later by Hannah Dodd in the second season, is the sixth child of the Bridgerton family and is the most introverted of them all. She plays the wife of John Stirling in the film and both have a great love for music.
John StirlingJohn proves to be the perfect man for Francesca as they enjoy each other’s company and also music, which is not what Rani wanted for her. This reaches a new level when their marriage is arranged, and John’s cousin Michaela Stirling, portrayed by Masali Baduza, joins them at the end of the show.
Gregory BridgertonGregory Bridgerton, played by Will Tilston for the show, is one of several Bridgerton brothers, although he is the second youngest. He enjoys playing chess and shooting arrows, although while practicing he ends up damaging and injuring things in the house.
Hyacinth Bridgerton: Played by Florence Hunt, she is the youngest Bridgerton sister. Although at this point she seems more focused on adding new sisters to the family, the books also hint that she will experience a romantic relationship of her own.
