The Masti franchise starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani is loved by the audience for its comedy, mischief and friendship. Recently, Milap Zaveri, who will be directing the fourth installment of the film, shared that he came up with a story for the film and took it to Indra Kumar, who directed the previous three installments. However, Kumar was working on Dhamaal 4 after Ajay Devgan’s approval. So, the lead actor, Ritesh, suggested that Zaveri direct it.
Milap Zaveri co-wrote the second installment of the Grand Masti franchise, which became a major hit. In a candid chat with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, the filmmaker shared the story behind coming on board to direct the film.
Milap shared that 2023 saw the release of two hit films, Dream Girl 2 and Fukrey 3, and both were superhits at the box office. So, he went to watch the film starring Ayushmann Khurrana and was impressed by it. The director-writer shared that he later congratulated the film’s director and called Indra Kumar and Riteish.
He said, “I told him the audience wants to come and laugh and have a good time, and Masti is such a great brand, why aren’t you doing Masti 4?” (Why don’t you make Masti 4?) So, in response to Indra Kumar saying that he had no plot, Zaveri took up the responsibility and presented him with an impressive idea within a week.
However, a few days later, Kumar called him and the Housefull actor to his office and revealed that he could not direct the film. Recalling that moment, he said, “Indu ji said that Ajay Devgan sir has given me the OK to do Dhamaal 4, I am doing that, then Ritesh said Indu ji, if you are not directing Masti 4 then I will do it only then. I will do it when Milap directs it.” (I have got confirmation from Ajay Devgan for Dhamaal 4, so I am directing that. Riteish told him that if he is not directing that film, he will do it only if Milap directs it.)
As a result, the director of Satyamev Jayate 2 who went on to give a story for Masti 4 got the opportunity to direct it. He said that he feels honored that Indra Kumar and Ritesh have trusted him with the responsibility of such an important brand.
However, the lead actor also put a condition. Sharing this, Milap said, ‘The first thing he told me was that it would not be obscene. You have to make a fun, naughty, crazy movie like the first one.”
Explaining the reason for this, the filmmaker said that the actor and his children are also friends. Therefore making a pornographic film would be strange. Additionally, they want it to have the essence of the first film in the franchise, which was an entertaining and really fun film.

As a result, they are working with the same approach. The release date of the film has not been announced yet. The official announcement with Riteish, Vivek and Aftab was made in February 2024 and its lead cast shared its logo along with a crew photo. The shooting of the film has possibly started, though there is no confirmation and Deshmukh and Zaveri will be working together again after Marjaavaan.
