How Akshay Kumar, Veer Paharia helped fix the Mahavir Chakra of the theft war hero
Actors Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahria helped the 1965 war hero, squadron leader AB Devayya to recover and return the Mahavir Chakra medal of theft. The medal was handed over to his family at a special ceremony organized by the Indian Air Force in Bangalore.

Actors Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya helped return the stolen Mahavir Chakra medal. The medal was from Squadron Leader AB Devayya, an Indian Air Force officer who was posthumously awarded for his bravery in the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
Working on ‘Sky Force’, a film based on the mission of the late officer, debut actor Veer Pahariya, who played the role of Squadron Leader Devayya, came to know about the lost medal. Along with his co-star Akshay Kumar, both attempted to detect and recover medals.
Preetha Devayya, daughter of squadron leader Devayya, posted several pictures and videos of the case on her Instagram account. He thanked Akshay and Veer for his help, and told what the medal means for his mother Sundari.
Talking about his participation, he wrote, “When Veer Pahariya came home to meet us, while he was doing the film ‘Sky Force’, when he learned what happened, after which Mr. Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahiya took it to themselves, which took us to help us to get a precious medal (SIC).”
At a formal ceremony organized by the Indian Air Force in the training command in Bengaluru on 9 June, the medal was returned to Devayya’s wife Sundari Devayya. Air Marshal Tejinder Singh Subsam VM awarded the medal, which offers and proud to the family. “She keeps saying that she finally feels full. After all these years, there is peace in her heart,” Preetha mentioned in her Instagram note.
The medal, India’s second largest war -time valor award, was stolen years before the family house. For the Devay family, it was a powerful reminder of a father’s sacrifice and husband’s courage. “For Mummy, the medal was a symbol of my father’s courage and placed a place of pride on his dresser. Because of both of them (Veer Pahariya and Akshay Kumar), my mother is once again holding Mahavir Chakra,”
Reflecting the experience, Veer Pahariya said, “That’s why I chose to become an actor – to spread love, create a difference and leave myself a little behind in every story (SIC).” Akshay Kumar did not comment publicly, but the family expressed thanks to his participation.
‘Sky Force’, directed by Abhishek Anil Kapoor and Sandeep Kevalani, is based on India’s first airstrike on Sargodha airbase of Pakistan. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Veer Paharia, Sara Ali Khan and Nimarat Kaur in the lead roles.
