In short

  • Millions of hotmail users are unable to log in due to global outage
  • Both mobile and desktop versions of Hotmail/Outlook are affected
  • UK, US, India, Canada, Germany and Australia users are affected

Hotmail users around the world are spending difficult times today. Since morning on 10 July, many people have been unable to log in to their accounts. Whether on the phone or computer, users are getting error messages, password signals, or alert saying that something went wrong. Even while entering the right password, some are being told that it is wrong. For many people, it has blocked access to both significant emails, personal and related to work. The sudden outage has created a lot of disappointment, especially among those who rely on Hotmail every day for communication.

People are affected in many countries including UK, US, India, Canada, Germany and Australia. It does not matter that you are using the app, web browser, or outlook – problems are the same. The tracking website has reported several complaints, most of the users said they cannot log in, receive license errors, or connect to the Microsoft server. As in the form of 9:15 PM IST, about 2,800 problem reports were logged into the site.

Many users have moved to social media platforms such as Reddit and X (East) to talk about the issue. Some are trapped on the login screen, some are being asked to re-enter the password repeatedly, while others are getting messages like “license verification failed” or “try again”. Some have also said that their accounts appear temporarily blocked.

So far, Microsoft has not explained what the cause of the problem is. A support page mentioned “intermittent disruption”, but no clear cause or fix has yet been given. This lack of clarity is making users more annoyed, as many people want to return to their inboxes.

If you are affected, it is best not to reset your password – which does not work for most people. For now, the only option is to wait and check for updates on websites such as Microsoft’s support page or Downdetetor. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved soon.
