Hope after 15 months: Celina Jaitley gives update on brother’s UAE custody case

Actress Celina Jaitley recently shared an update about her brother, Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitley, who has been detained in the UAE since September 2024. This update comes after an important order of the Delhi High Court, which has directed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to assist in facilitating communication between Celina and her brother.
The Delhi High Court has directed the Ministry of External Affairs to appoint a nodal officer to coordinate with authorities in the UAE. The order specifies that the ministry should use all available channels including the TAMM app or other communication platforms Enable contact between Celina Jaitley and her brother. The directive was issued in response to the difficulties Celina was facing in establishing communication with Vikrant since his custody began.
According to Jaitley’s post, the court’s intervention marks a turning point after months of uncertainty. She expressed appreciation for the court order but did not elaborate on her brother’s circumstances or the reason for his detention.
“Mom and Papa.. I am doing my best! I have not spoken to Vikrant in 15 months. Today, Hope was put on record.. Thank you Universe!! My petition seeking access and legal representation to my brother, Major (Retd) Vikrant Kumar Jaitley, who has been kidnapped and detained in the UAE from 6 September 2024, was heard today by the Honorable Delhi High Court. The Ministry of External Affairs filed its status report and Appointed a nodal officer to coordinate with me for access to my brother. While I have still not been able to speak to Vikrant, it has been 15 months, Senior Advocate Chetan Sharma, Additional Solicitor General, Government of India, informed the court that he will try his best to get me to speak to Vikrant (sic).

“The Honorable Judge directed the Ministry to make efforts to facilitate my access to speak to Vikrant. I am grateful to the LD ASG and the Court for recognizing my plight and acknowledging the contribution of 4 generations of our family to the Indian Armed Forces. The next date in the Court is 23rd December. I am optimistically awaiting the next step. At this time I will not be able to answer any questions from members of the media or press. The development has drawn attention to the challenges faced by families with relatives detained abroad. As the Ministry of External Affairs begins the process of nominating a nodal officer and coordinating with UAE authorities, Celina Jaitley and her family are awaiting further updates on establishing contact with Major (retd) Vikrant Kumar Jaitley.
