Veteran actor Farida Jalal, accepted by many for his unforgettable roles, made a high anticipated comeback on the screen with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix series Hairmandi: The Diamond Bazaar. She portrayed the character of Quudsia Begum and nervous when Bhansali initially asked her to keep wine glass during a scene and remembered, “My Thandhi Pad Gay (I Frej).” However, when she told how she wanted how she did her first scene, she felt uncomfortable and immediately refused. For his surprise, Bhansali removed the scene without saying a word.
In a conversation with Galata India, Farida Jalal said how Sanjay Leela Bhansali described his first scene in Hiramandi. He imagined his character sitting with a group of Nawabzadis at a party, holding a glass of wine in one hand and a cigarette in the other, celebrating his son’s return from abroad.
Kuch Kuch Hota is the actress admitted that she was surprised by the details and immediately felt uncomfortable. She immediately realized that she could not demonstrate the scene as it made her uncomfortable.
Farida Jalal further shared that he expressed his inconvenience to Bhansali, told him that he had never taken such roles before and always rejected similar proposals in the past. He explained that catching cigarettes would make him feel unnatural and he would not be able to do justice to the scene.
For his surprise, Bhansali did not say a word in response and did not bring the matter again. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge actress praised her professionalism and understanding, admitting that she immediately removed the scene, recognizing her inconvenience.
Jalal was pleased with how his character appeared on the screen. She believed that if her character had been shown drinking and smoking, she would have been mixed with other characters in Hiramandi, losing her uniqueness.
She mentioned that she was happy with the final result and was certain that Bhansali also felt that this was the right decision. Farida said that painting such habits would have made him very uncomfortable because he is not engaged in those activities.
Hiramandi also included Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Taha Shah, and Pardin Khan.
