Hezbollah said it “targeted” Israeli troops “agitating” near the Lebanese border on Tuesday, with a source close to the group saying troops were “right on the border” as fears of infiltration grew.

The US State Department had earlier said that Israel was conducting a limited campaign targeting Hezbollah inside Lebanon.

The official, requesting anonymity to discuss sensitive matters, said Israeli troops “are firing artillery shells from areas it declared closed military zones on Monday.”
The Lebanese army also had to move troops away from its southern border due to fears of infiltration, a Lebanese military official told AFP on Monday.
The Lebanese army is “reorganizing and mobilizing forces” from the southern border, said the official, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

On Monday evening, Hezbollah’s al-Manar television channel reported “Zionist artillery shelling” near the border areas of Wazani, Khiyam Valley, Alma al-Sha’ab and Nakura.
Vazani and Khiyam are just north of Israel, just north of Metula, where the army declared a closed military zone in Metula, Misgav Am and Kfar Giladi on Monday.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported “continuous artillery shelling” on border areas including Wazani and the nearby Marjayoun plain and Khiyam.

The fighting comes nearly a year after cross-border firing between Israel and Hezbollah, with the Lebanese group saying they were in support of Palestinian ally Hamas, whose October 7 attack on Israel triggered the war in Gaza.
