18 dead, search continues to disappear

On Monday, rescue teams were searching for 76 people, who were fearing to get trapped under the wreck of incomplete tower in Chaturuchak district. The employed skyscraper was to give home to the State Audit Office (SAO) of Thailand, but shocks – due to an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude in neighboring Myanmar on Friday, reduced the structure to a pile of debris in seconds. It was under construction for three years and the project was priced more than two billion Baht (45 million pounds). So far eighteen deaths have been confirmed.

Many high-growing buildings in Bangkok remained dissatisfied with limited reports of large-scale major damage, motivating the question why a tower was destroyed.

According to a UK Telegraph report, SAO Bhawan was a joint venture between Italian -Than Development PLC (ITD) and China Railway No. 10 (Thailand) Limited. The latter China Railway Number 10 is a subsidiary of the engineering group company, with a 49% stake – maximum foreign ownership is allowed under the Thai law.
