Newly formed grassroots organisation ‘Hindus For America First’ has announced that it will support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and launch a campaign against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in key electoral states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina.
Announcing the decision on Thursday, Utsav Sanduja, president and founder of Hindus for America First, claimed that Harris would be “very destabilising for India-US relations”.
“The concern is that if Kamala becomes president of the United States, she could put some liberal people into office who could actually overturn the Supreme Court’s decision in this case, which would impact Asian-American voters,” he said.
He said the Biden-Harris administration has not secured the border. Harris is second in command to President Joe Biden and has done nothing to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the US.
“As a result of all of these illegal immigrants, we’ve seen a huge increase in crime and drug trafficking … and that’s impacting minority communities, particularly many Asian-American business owners,” he said.
On the other hand, Sanduja praised Trump’s efforts to make the immigration system more merit-based. He also praised the former president’s efforts to promote defense and technology cooperation with India.
Trump is “very pro-India”. He said he has been able to build a great relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is collaborating on a number of defence projects that will enable India to counter China.
Sanduja said that unlike Harris, who made several “derogatory comments” about the Indian government and the people of India, Trump did not interfere in the country’s internal affairs.
He claimed, “Kamala Harris would be very destabilizing for India-US relations.”
He said Hindus for America First is organising efforts among Hindus against Harris in battleground states like Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada.
Sanduja said the global Hindu community was concerned about attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
“We will request all concerned political bodies to raise this issue,” he said, adding that Bangladeshi Hindus are suffering.
He said, “I give a lot of credit to President Trump. Under his leadership, the State Department acknowledged the persecution of Hindus in various parts of the subcontinent, like Afghanistan… In Pakistan, it was President Trump who took the lead in acknowledging the Hindu genocide.”
