Jailer 2 is one of the most awaited movies of 2026. The Rajinikanth starrer will have multiple star cameos like the previous instalment. It was earlier reported that Telugu star Nandamuri Balakrishna aka Balayya will play a grand cameo role in Jailer 2; However, things have changed now.
According to the latest report from Valai Pechu, Nandamuri Balakrishna is no longer committed to a surprise cameo in the Rajinikanth starrer. Although the reason behind Balayya’s sudden exit from the film has been kept a secret, the news is that the same role, which was written keeping him in mind, will now be played by Vijay Sethupathi.
Reportedly, Vijay Sethupathi has started shooting his portion in the film. This will continue for a few days. The guest appearance is said to be spectacular and entertaining, and will be an important catalyst for the plot.
This will be the second time that Sethupathi and Thalaivar will share the screen together. Prior to this, he worked in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta (2019), where Makkal Selvan played the negative role.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is expected to be completed by February 2026. The makers are targeting a summer 2026 release, although there has been no official announcement on the release date yet. Let us tell you, Jailer 2 is the sequel of the blockbuster Tamil film Jailer released in 2023. The second installment will reportedly continue from where the first part ended.
Mohanlal and Dr. Shiv Rajkumar are expected to reprise their roles from the original film, while the cast will feature some additional names like Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan.
Talking about the work front, Rajinikanth’s last release was Coolie. This film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj did not perform as per expectations. All eyes are now on Jailer 2. Apart from the action drama directed by Nelson, Thalaivar is also committed to do a film under Kamal Haasan’s production banner.
