Son of Sardaar, which released in 2012, won the hearts of the audience. Now, more than a decade later, the sequel is set to excite fans once again. Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt were earlier cast for the project, while Mrunal Thakur was to play the lead role. However, recent reports suggest that Sanjay Dutt is no longer a part of the film due to complications in obtaining a UK visa and has been replaced by Ravi Kishan.
Sanjay Dutt was supposed to play the villain in Son of Sardaar 2 alongside Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur. According to a report in Mid-Day, Sanjay Dutt has been dropped from the film, which is being shot in Scotland, after his UK visa application linked to his previous imprisonment was rejected. The source revealed that Dutt had faced difficulties in securing a UK visa earlier as well.
The source also hinted that Sanjay Dutt’s visa issues might affect the shooting of Housefull 5, which is scheduled to begin in London in September. When asked if producer Sajid Nadiadwala will need a replacement for Dutt, the source said, “Sajid has taken a sensible route. While the shoot with the cast will begin in London, all portions of Sanju will be shot in Mumbai. So, there is no problem on that front.”
In April 1993, Sanjay Dutt was detained under TADA and the Arms Act, and was later convicted of violating the Arms Act for possessing illegal firearms obtained from other individuals involved in the 1993 Bombay bombings. He was sentenced to five years in prison. His five-year sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court in March 2013, and after several bail periods, he completed his full term and was released in 2016.
Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt were to reprise their roles of Billu and Jassi in Son of Sardaar 2. The sequel was rumoured to begin afresh instead of ending from the first film.
Earlier, a source had exclusively told Pinkvilla that Son of Sardaar 2 will feature Vijay Raj, Ravi Kishan, Chunky Panday, Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal, Kubbra Sait, Vindu Dara Singh, Mukul Dev, Sharat Saxena, Roshni Walia and Ashwini Kalsekar in pivotal roles apart from the lead actors.
