Harry Potter actress Katie Leung’s casting in Bridgerton season 4 is like two prominent but different worlds colliding! The actress, who played Ravenclaw witch Cho Chang in the JK Rowling franchise, is set to play Araminta Gan in the Regency era romance. According to the character description, she is “twice married and twice widowed” and has two daughters ready to make their debut in society. She is a sensible and forthright woman who won’t let anything tarnish her social standing.
Unfortunately, she has her eye on the city’s most eligible bachelor, Benedict (Luke Thompson), who is becoming a major obstacle in his and Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) love story. It looks like there are plenty of eager mothers and daughters fighting for Benedict next season.
In addition to Leung, the show also casts Goosebumps actress Michelle Mao and The Crow’s Isabella Wei as Araminta’s daughters, Rosamund and Posy. The eldest daughter is “vain and eager” and hopes to somehow match up with the other Bridgerton sibling, just like her scheming mother. Meanwhile, Posy is the kind, talkative sister who has a habit of saying something inappropriate at the wrong time.
The fourth season of the much-loved Regency drama will highlight the love story of Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beck, adapted from Julia Quinn’s An Offer from a Gentleman.
Benedict has openly expressed his hatred for the marriage market on several occasions in previous seasons. But after meeting a mysterious woman (Sophie) at his mother’s masquerade ball party, he is instantly smitten by her.
Speaking to Tudum, Thompson talked about the fourth season. “What’s really special about Season 4 is the conflict between an old-fashioned fairy tale – the romance of it – and the actual reality of the world,” he said. He said that reality and romance will go hand in hand and “true happiness” will be found somewhere in between.
She also said that the script is “really, really, really exciting” and the story is similar to Cinderella with a little twist. “It’s really exciting to incorporate that into the world,” she added. Meanwhile, Yerin Ha revealed that Sohpi’s resilience amid the crisis is something she can relate to. “What attracted me to Sohpi was that she has obstacles right away – something she has to constantly overcome,” she said.
